WebSearch.com Virus Removal (Fix Guide)

The internet is full of harmful programs nowadays. WebSearch.com is another addition to that group. This malicious application is categorized as a browser hijacker. That means WebSearch.com has the capabilities to take control of your internet browser. Having this in mind, it is no surprise that WebSearch.com infection will result in some alterations to the browser’s settings. For example, the default search engine and homepage will be changed to the promoted domains. Furthermore, the usage of popular search engines will be restricted too. As a consequence, each attempt to use Google or Yahoo will result in annoying redirection to some other website.

WebSearch hijacker

WebSearch.com lacks harmful features so it cannot be categorized as a virus. A separate classification group was created for this kind of programs by McAfee. They called it “PUPs”. Despite the fact that programs, which are categorized as PUPs, are not as vicious as real viruses, they might still cause serious damage or at least seriously annoy the user. WebSearch.com is no exception. To make matters worse, the application has some similarities with rootkits. That is way it is so hard to get rid of WebSearch.com.

WebSearch.com is usually disguised as a useful browser extension. To make matters worse, all major internet browsers such as Chrome, Mozilla and IE are vulnerable.

There is a variety of methods which are used in order to spread WebSearch.com, but bundling the browser hijacker with freeware is the most frequent one. This method is very popular among the developers of browser hijacker or other malicious programs. Despite being a relatively old technique, it still proves to be the most successful one. This means that users should be very careful when downloading and installing freeware.
