Once it infiltrates the computer it encrypts the data stored on the hard drive and demands ransom from the owners of the infected PCs. The amount of money, which has to be transferred, might vary from 500$ to $1500.

What is more, sometimes users might be informed that the files are encrypted due to the fact that there is child pornography stored on the HDD. This false accusation will be presented in a notification window which appears instantly after the infection. User should have in mind that transferring the demanded funds won‘t solve the issue as access to the blocked PC will not be restored. Sending criminals the money will only make things worse as it might be used to fund future scams.

There is a variety of methods which are implicated in order to distribute CryptoLocker. For instance, the virus might be bundled with freeware that might seem completely harmless from the first glance. Furthermore, the virus might reach the PC via spam email. Even clicking on a suspicious advertisement might lead to CryptoLocker infection. It just goes to show that users should have their eyes wide open each time they browse the internet.

My laptop became infected with CryptoLocker on Wed 6 August 2014. My files are now encrypted. Have tried the fix provided by decryptolocker.com but does not unlock files. Any other ideas?

    Thankyou!
